The Evening Post: What’s black and white and read all over?

Because blogs never sleep, it's: The Evening Post.

Famous Whitewater has been blogging about it and so has Mike Scott. Chris Daniel devoted two hours to it today. And Fresno Bee Overlord, Betsy Lumbye, broke the bad news Sunday. The news that the Fresno Bee has to change, a change that started today. Condescending sections is the main change.

But the most visible difference to Monday's paper (for a comics nerd) was the comics section is now black and white. A colorless Pearls Before Swine? A drabyass Get Fuzzy? [Shakes fist in the air] "Damn you expensive newspaper print! Damn you to hell!"

At least we can still find the color version of Bucky, online:

Get Fuzzy

*You can click the above strip to make it more readable.

Did they just say Fresno…Bee?

Because the FresnoBeehive can’t catch every Fresno mention, even if it was in the paper:  The Fresno Bee got some product placement action a couple Sunday’s ago in the comic Pearls Before Swine.  If you click the pic on the right, you can see what I’m talking about.

We could have something to do with it too.  Some time ago I did a vlog about the Bee removing Get Fuzzy for Pearls.  I didn’t like the move and I did some Swine bashing.

A couple days after posting the vlog, the creator of Pearls, Stephan Pastis, emailed me and said he saw the video – whoops.  Except he wasn’t pissed, he thought it was funny (kinda).  He was just worried because most people who like Fuzzy, like Pearls – Stephan happens to be best friends with Fuzzy creator Darby Conley by the way.  He later relayed that he and Darby were bummed Get Fuzzy got bumped from the Bee at the same time Pearls caught on.

But it all ended happily because the Bee saw their error and brought Get Fuzzy back while keeping Pearls Before Swine.  So now, we can get stuff like this:

Pearls

Saturday Fresgeek: Free Comics live again

Two [major] things for a true Fresno nerd (yo!) to do Saturday.
Darkhorsefreecomic01

ONE:  Go to Heroes Comics and get some free shit that probably won’t ever be worth anything…but hey, it’s free.

TWO:  See Iron Man ALL DAY LONG, because apparently it’s that good.  I suggest seeing at Broadway Faire – dammit if it doesn’t beat the hell out of Edwards.

They must Bee listening

Does the Bee actually listen to its readers or something?  The Fresno Bee made some subtle changes to the paper.  One is moving the editorial page to the back of the business section.

I don’t get that one guys.  Why would you move a total local thing out of the local section and into the business section?  Trying to find the logic there and…nothing.

Getfuzzy200711195248One sweetass change in the Bee, they brought back GET FUZZY.  Best comic out there and it was stupid they pulled it out in the first place – I even told them so.  But, it would have been nice if they could have brought in a Fresnan’s comic: Dead Days.

Oh well, one nerdy battle at a time.

Fresnan Nerd Issues Blog #1: BC sucks ass!

Are you going to be a dweeb like The Fresnan and vote on what comic strip the Fresno Bee should keep around? I’ll hand it to the Bee, they picked the right ones to vote off the page, I’m having problems finding one to keep around:

B.C.: All time worst mainstream comic strip in history.
Beetle Bailey: Also terrible, but being in a time of war, there should be a military related strip on the page. Too bad it blows.
Blondie: I just can’t axe Dagwood, call me a softy.
Born Loser: I think this one was funny at one time, I just can’t remember when that was.
Family Circus: If somebody that spoke another language asked you what does "corny" mean, show them this strip. But the seven year old in me won’t kill this one off.
Frank and Ernest: Sometimes funny.  Mostly lame.  Wouldn’t miss it.
In the Bleachers: Mildly amusing if you’re a sports fan, worthless if you’re not.
The Wizard of Id: Never good. This one might go down if B.C. doesn’t.

Whatever you do, just remember, in the name of all that is sane, don’t vote for BC. I mean, look at this shit:
