Spanspek 2010: All Ages Enjoy Tokyo Death March

With less public places for all ages fun in Fresno, you know what that means: More house parties! That's not such a bad thing when you have Tokyo Death March playing at your place though:

Oh and hey, total coincidence we just posted that because, lookie here, TDM is playing this year's Spanspek Festival:

Spanspek

Before you say anything, yeah, we know Orosi is in Tulare County so maybe it's not right for a Fresno blog to post about it. But, we have a Conditional Use Permit that allows us one non-Fresno post every quarter – so there. Anyway, real glad Spanspek Music and Arts Festival is returning to Orosi Memorial Hall.

This year's lineup:

Oh hey: all ages too. Perfect because Orosi is totally out of Mirsnitchian's jurisdiction.

Incoming!: Sudz In The City Saturday @ The Chuck

SUDZPoster10-279

Ohhhh, so they finally got smart and opened up the 600 Club during Sudz In The City. Although it's VIP for another $25. Yeah, we get it, you gotta charge extra so you don't have us every drunkass douchebag stumbling around up in the club.

Bands that will be playing this year: DB & the Struggle, Super Lucky Catz, Motel Drive, On the Fly, Monkey Wrench and Annette Ash Trio.

Might be fun, might suck, either way we're glad it's still around and downtown.

How The Hell Did The Director Of This Commercial Get Coach Fu To Actually Have A Little Fun?

Coach Hill must be hella excited about the home schedule the Dogs have this season:

  • 9/04 Cincinnati
  • 10/2 Cal Poly
  • 10/9 Hawaii
  • 10/13 New Mexico State
  • 11/13 Nevada
  • 11/27 Idaho
  • 12/03 Illinois

Wonder if Pat Hill was still having fun when he learned that Boise State is going to have their FieldTurf replaced for free when he's still stuck with his sorry lookin' grass. Side rant: Frankly we think the natural grass looks way better than any field turf could (blue or not), even if it doesn't hold up well. But for some reason, coaches really get boners for FieldTurf.

Fresno Film Festival 2010: Win A Pair Of Tickets To ‘The Last Station’

Fresno film festival

You may have already heard, the 2010 Fresno Film Festival starts on Friday. A lot of radio and buzzworthy advertising has been happening this year, including things like the awesome poster above and sweet Fresno-filled videos:

The good folks at Fresno Filmworks are even extending their campaign reach into the blogs by letting us give away a pair of tickets to Friday's opening night film "The Last Station". Just be the first to tell us any three locations featured in the promo video (pretty damn easy for a Fresnan) in the comment section and the pair of tickets are yours. Added bonus: The tickets also get you into the opening night after-party that follows "The Last Station" showing.

So get ta commenting (use a good email). We'll watch this Last Station trailer as we wait:

Time For The Fresno Nerds To Have Their Say!

Ff_awards_300x100 Woo hoo! They have returned! It's time again for the Famous Choice Awards. The Choicies are of course the best of the Fresno award lists because they are voted on by us blog readers, aka Fresno's Nerd Nation.

The Famous awards are also why you won't see an all encompassing award list by this blog or any other Fresno blog really – there's already the Famous Choice Awards so why bother.

This year they've made it a little more difficult for one person to vote several times, so that's cool. And like every year, they mixed in some new categories (think they're new anyway) like 'best bartender' and 'best local do-gooder' (which would most likely be the same person in our book).

So get over to Famous and vote correct like and make those other ones look silly.

Happy Even Your Dog Is Irish Day, Fresno!

We know there are plenty of other things happening tonight, but this is what we very humbly suggest:

Jj brown

You got a great club with four solid live and local acts: Poor Man's Poison, Strange Vine, The Bungalowdowns and JJ Brown.

Wear green or get punched in the neck!
