Bandgeek: HELP! This Post Is Trapped Under The Weight Of So Much Good Music
These are the kinds of weekends us live music geeks live for. Three days full of action, lot's to choose from. So scroll through, click some links, have a listen to some stuff you've never taken the time to before. Basically what we're saying … let's BANDGEEK!
FRIDAY
C.A.F.E. INFOSHOP: That's right, a show that we have our name-in-the-hat on is taking the not-all-that-coveted lead spot on Bandgeek; wanna fight about it!? We went into full description earlier but basically you take SF band (with Valley ties) Slow Trucks. Add Madera's stellar Buffalo Guns. Then mix in SLO's smAlls. And stir with Fresno's Sunburns. You've got a nice DIY kinda indie rock show in Chinatown at C.A.F.E. Infoshop. [7pm, $5, ALL AGES]
BABYLON: A little something different for ya brought in by Diehardz as Baghdad metal band Acrassicauda makes a Fresno stop. These are the same guys from the movie Heavy Metal In Baghdad. Pretty fucking sweet. Details:
CYC: A visit from Sacramento hardcore band, Havenside. And hey, just a few doors down from the Buffalo Guns show at C.A.F.E. Infoshop. Hard. Core. Synergy.
KUPPAJOES: This lineup might win the weekend prize for coolest names: Obadiah Parker (Phoenix folk musician), Omotola, The Red Coats, Cold Eskimo and Anthony Polanco. Details:
AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: It's like mostly The Melvins [Lite] … two OG ones anyway. Kinda like how KISS is now. The dude with the big hair is still in the band it looks like so that's cool! Hey, it's some of The Melvins at Audie's; what more do you want?:
STARLINE: "A Midsummers Night Rock Show" with Style Like Revelators, Flonkerton and The Capital Is Burning. [8:30pm, $6, 21+]
CLUB RETRO: San Fransisco Alt/indie band A Lot Like Birds and Sacramento's I The Mighty plus some local talent:
SATURDAY
FULTON 55: Make sure to listen to the primer for this show. Sahab really has something special going on, we thinks, probably should catch this:
Bandgeek!: Bury Some Strangers This Weekend
Shaping up to be another great weekend of music in Fresno even if there's a hole in the schedule (no Club Retro this weekend?). Saturday looks particularly awesome with several good choices.
FRIDAY
KUPPAJOES: Seems to be a night of solo acoustic goodness with Kyle Monroe (Hazel and Vine), Joey Vinnucci (From Indian Lakes) and Jeffrey Conway. Plus Seattle's Brier Rose. [7:00 $6]
ARTE AMERICAS: The museum continues its summer series of concerts and tonight's offering is the popular Visalia Latin group: Mezcal. [8:00 $10]
CYC: Punktastic night with Fresno's Crucial Point, The 32s, Born Loser, plus DC01 (Davis) and Wages Of Fear (Ventura). [7:00 $6]
AUDIE'S
OLYMPIC: So we know that Glen Delpit will be doing his usual Friday evening thing at Audie's (that's free and goes from 5:30 to 8). And we THINK national touring country punk act from Cincinnati, 500 Miles To Memphis, will be there later… pretty sure. Bruce Parton may be there too. [9:30 $10]
NIHON GALLERY: Fresnan approved, Trumpet Solo, playing their indie garage metal in a gallery environment. Sweeet! [7:00 $?]
STARLINE: Bakersfield's, Adema, is back and Fresno tonight, but don't forget that it's also a CD release party for Fresno's, Say Swear:
THE CAPTIVE: Hit some NAILS, Fell To Low, Break Through It All and Grow [7:00 $7]
Indie Tuesday: Greensburough, Portland and Fresno
STARLINE
Indie Tuesday at Starline hosts some Fresnans and a touring band from North Carolina: The Bronzed Chorus - don't get many of those 'round these parts. The Fresno talent is Manuel A and Mane Horse.
[Doors: 9 Cost: 5]
AUDIE'S OLYMPIC
A van filled with LA and Portland bands will be sitting in front of Audie's tonight, those being: Spindrift, The Morning After Girls (we think) and 1776.
Spindrift has been through before and The Morning After Girls (guys, buy the way) were just here last week. One band's schedule is saying TMAG will be there, but nothing else does. Guess we'll find out tonight.
[Time: 9 Cost: 5]
The Bronzed Chorus: Hiding In The Woods from Matt Williams on Vimeo.
Indie Tuesday: Fresno’s Music Future is NOW?
Sorry for the lateness of the post here, but if you're still jazzed about live music in Fresno after Sunday night's success at Audie's, take that energy over to Starline tonight. The lineup looks like this:
- Greener By Color [Fresno band that looks like they pull ladies to their shows].
- The Escorts. [More Fresno indie goodness].
- Ralpheene [They are from El Paso and stopped in at Audie's last week].
All the info is on the flyer, which is really quite awesome. It's worth a couple looks. A definite Starline Grill wall candidate.
