New Music Tuesday!: Fay Wrays “Cars”

Fay wrays

Fresnan favorite, the Fay Wrays, sorta randomly released a new song for us all called "Cars". It's sorta awesome. We like it. It's got this cool simple thing going but it manages to still feel important, like it's deeper than we realize… or something. We're not good at "giving reviews" just listen please (it's a free download, by the way):

Actually "Cars" isn't totally random. Fay Wrays are going to put a new vinyl release out in the somewhat near future and this will be on it. We'll keep an ear out for it.

The Fay Wrays have already leaked one song off their upcoming album "Strange Confessor" and now we have another one. This one you can download and have alls to yourself (thanks, Fay Wrays). We find the song ("Comrade Weather") quite pleasing to our inner badass.

Dare you to find a heavier riff around town: ComradeWeather.mp3

New Music Monday [Post 2 of 3]: The Fay Wrays Leak “She Gave Me A Compass”

Popular on The Fresnan and soon to be to the rest of Fresno, local post punk band the Fay Wrays. They just competed their new album titled "Strange Confessor". It's not available yet but they leaked one of the songs off it. It very much kicks the ass:

There will soon be a party at Fulton 55 to celebrate the new CD. It contains the best lineup we've seen all year. For serious:

Incoming!: Many Arms at Tokyo Garden with Rademacher, Fay Wrays and a jazzmetally album

Many arms A nice post-Arthop show is coming to Tokyo Garden tonight with Fresno's own, seriously awesome, Fay Wrays and Rademacher.

Adding some out-of-town flavor to the show is Many Arms. They're from Philadelphia, they're instrumental, experimental and probably looking for a place to have a cheap meal in Downtown Fresno right now.

Their current album is called "Palabras Malas" and we sneaked a listen to it to get all geeked-up for the show. And geeked is a proper term for this album because music geeks would love it. It is truly musician rock. It feels like this is the kind of band/album Thelonious Monk would put together if he played guitar… and was alive. There is prog and jazz and metal all happening at once. At times it's brilliant and other times you want to do some speed just so you can keep up with what's happening.

In fact it's amazing that they seem to know where they're going, even if it doesn't sound like it (in a good way). We can only imagine the recording of the album went something like this:

INT. RECORDING STUDIO. NIGHT.
Guitarist is frantically playing his guitar… while sleeping. Bass player is watching in amazement. Guitarist stops playing.

BASS PLAYER: Dude that was awesome!
GUITARIST: (waking up) Wait. Huh?
BASS PLAYER: We gotta record that, it was brilliant. What's it called?
GUITARIST: What's what called?
BASS PLAYER: The song you were playing.
GUITARIST: And here I thought I was sleeping. I was playing a song?
BASS PLAYER: Yeah man, and it was really good. Play it again I want to work on some bass parts for it.
GUITARIST: Dude I can't play it again, I have no idea what I was playing BECAUSE I WAS FUCKING SLEEPING!

That's what "Palabras Malas" sounds like: three really good musicians that recorded themselves playing as they slept.

We've got a free song download "The Year 500 Billion" for you to form your own opinion. Download: TheYear500Billion.mp3

It's going to be interesting to see and hear them try to pull it all off live at Tokyo Garden tonight. Show starts at 9:00 and it's 5 bucks to get in.

Monday Morning Hangover: Hardcore Fresno Band Intensity

Besides just plain liking their music, we’re big Fay Wrays fans because nobody gets more lost in their music during a live performance. If you watch the entire clip from Saturday night’s “Audiepalooza” you’ll see what we’re talking about. At about the 3:06 mark, things start gettin’ serious. Also check 5:06 [insanity] and 6:23 when frontman Benji has problems catching his breath – awesommme:

Also at Audie’s Saturday was hardcore metal band, Moses. Badass dudes if you’re okay with the style of music (and we are). Good fan following too:

KICKASS FRESNO SHOW ALERT: THE FAY WRAYS CD RELEASE PARTY @ AUDIE’S OLYMPIC

Thursday night, our favorite Fresno band, The Fay Wrays are partying. Partying because they have released their new album "Mata Hari". In honor of this, they're having said party, at Audie's Olympic with two terribly strong Fresno bands, Racelegs and Wheels Of Fortune. This will be an epic local show, one we strongly suggest you sacrifice coming into work Friday a little tired for – like you do any real work on Fridays anyway.

Fay wrays cd release show

Side note:
All three members of the Fay Wrays are scheduled to be on our Dorktown Podcast this week – it will hopefully be available for listening on Thursday morning.

Side note 2: Mike Oz obtained a new song from the Fay Wrays that you can freely download (but really you should buy a CD at the show Thursday if you want to be awesome) and he also has a related interview or two to check out.

Also you can hear Benji and Eli interviewed on TVLGFHF and Ben interviewed on Evening Eclectic.

Appointment Radio: Evening Eclectic With The Fay Wrays

They will be in the studio playing and talking it up with host Jefferson Beavers. Tune your oldtimey radio to 90.7 at 7 pm or try that cool iPhone app.

Obsess Over Some Fresno Music Thursday

L_bd31159c587d0da5e8e15a1dcbd053f7As you physically and mentally prepare to deal with the heat at the Best of Fresno show on Saturday (You are a Fresnan.  You are tough. You can do it.), get musically prepared on Thursday with a cool drink at a great local show.

Fresno’s own Fay Wrays, The Sleepover Disaster, Joshua Lanes and Long Beach’s The Aircrash, will be playing Club Fred at Audie’s Olympic.  I can’t stop listening to the Fay Wrays right now.  So I thought I should share in my Fay obsessiveness.
