Bootlegged In Fresno: Fatty Cakes “420BabySlut”

Fattycakes1

The one-woman-band-of-crazy-sweet-badass otherwise known as Fatty Cakes is a project of Strawberry Jam's, Amber Fargano. It's hilarious and catchy and should be on your Fresno list of things to enjoy live sometime. We recorded a bootleg of her playing at Tokyo Garden we'd like you to hear:

Warning: this song may give you a "clit boner".

Listen To This: Remotely Drunk – Dorktown Podcast #119

Dorktownep119

We just had a lot of fun with this one. Too much? Yes. Annoying sometimes? Yes. But good times. Dorktown's first ever guest, Aaron "The La Selva Beach Connection" comes back and gets rude with the gang. As usual we talk (over each other) about: Fresno, Clovis, craft beer, beer beer, Gold Lays, sexy Armenians, extra holes, other podcasts and so on. We also play a mega Or Game/Forit Or Againit/Is It Metal.

Make sure to listen for the remotes with Dead In 60 Years!! Plus some live Light Thieves and we play the new Fierce Creatures. BONUS remote with the mom older sister of Whitney Freeman from Achievement House. There may even be a "Bert" Easter Egg in a remote or two.

It gets real "drunk-y" so be warned. Have a listen:

Support Tioga Sequoia Brewing because they are big supporters of Craft Beer, Downtown Fresno and Fresno podcasts!

Check out Dorktown's home, leave a kickass review on iTunes, like their Face and Tweet'um… you know… if you have the time or whatever.

BANDGEEK!: Peter Case, Mercury Bullet, Gaza, Galye and her Bowties, Prince Parties and Red Airplanes

You just really have to love Friday night for the good mix of stuff. Saturday you may need to just dance it out with Prince.

How bout we BANDGEEEEEK!?:

FRIDAY

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Tonight's big act, Peter Case, is one of those dudes you kinda know, should know, but maybe don't. He's been around a ton of people, influenced a ton. Singer of the LA based The Plimsouls whose song "A Million Miles Away" was a big 80's hit featured in the movie Valley Girl. But he never quite got over the "big-time" hump. Seriously, check out his resume, it's quite extensive. Point is the guy is talented and shouldn't be missed. Peter will go on first at 9:30 followed by Fresno's own The Backstabbers and Third Rail Power Trip. Good stuff, Fresno. [$8, 21+]:

FULTON 55: Stacked up with hard rock from Mercury Bullet, Beta State, Relax Reload:

C.A.F.E. INFOSHOP: Heads up for experiemental grindcore type stuff with Gaza (Salt Lake City, Utah), Cabin Fire (Fresnans), Tide Mouth (Santa Clarita), Grow (Fresno) and Gorrilla Stomp (Fresno):

CAFEINFO

STARLINE: Breakout hit from Rogue Festival, Gayle And The Bowties, playing with Fresno alt-country band, Back In The Valley:

KUPPAJOE'S: Time to check out Valkyrie Missile, The Current, The Red Airplanes and Mercy Fists:

New Music Tuesday: The Soma Holidays

99-elg

Alright so it's a bit of a cheat for this week's NMT, it's going to be in the "new to you" category. Actually these songs by The Soma Holidays may not be new to you. They were maybe Fresno's biggest indie rock band, back seven or so years ago. Then one day they broke up. Rock and Roll.

Well lucky for Fresno, the dudes that played in the band are still around and are getting together Friday night at Audie's Olympic for a big reunion show. It shall be epic.

So we thought we'd put up some Soma for you now. You know, 'cause blogging wasn't really a big thing back when they were out so there isn't much Soma Holidays music around for folks to listen to.

We've got three tracks for you. All off their "Two Recordings" album. The first one is called "A.M. Radio" and was made with the original lineup. Download or just click: amradio.mp3

Second track is called "Get Yor Licks In Quick" and was made with the second lineup: getyorlicksinquick.mp3

Third track, "Miss Carmichael" is actually a track that could only be found on the limited edition of the album and was one of the last things the band did: misscarmichael.mp3

All these songs will be played Friday (with the matching lineups) and there will be some CDs available. It's going to be a great time, see ya out there.

*Thanks to Ben for hooking us up with the music!

Fresno Merch Of The Week: Sounds & Sciences’ “Alien Spaceship” T-Shirt

Sounds&sciences

In what may or may not be a regular feature here, our first pick for "Fresno Merch OTW" is Fresno melodic metal band Sounds & Sciences new Alien Spaceship shirt. You can order it for a clean $15 right now!

While you're at it, you can order us one too. Medium or even a large usually works.

Bootlegged Fresno: Pinkeye

Pinke

One hell of a show last Friday night at Audie's Olympic. It felt like everyone in town was up in there. Main thing though, there was a ton of great Fresno music. Like Pinkeye. It made for a nice opportunity to record a live bootleg, seeing as Pinkeye only plays once a year, if we're lucky.

We can't remember the name to this one, maybe a Pinkeye nerd can name it in the comments. Have a listen!:

New Music Tuesday: The Normandys “Dave’s Balls Are The New Coke”

250394_239577889398220_230421313647211_788575_4747406_n

This Tuesday brings us some pop-punk stuff from a new band that features dudes that were/are in a lot of other Fresno groups. Such as: The Giddy-Ups, The Sci-Fi Nightmares, The Midnight Howlers, The Little Triggers, Victimless Crime and many more.

The new bad is called The Normandys and they are working on a full length EP (if you can call a EP full-lengthed), but they released a song off it a little early called "Dave's Balls Are The New Coke" – We all knew this to be true, glad someone finally said it in song:

Thank You Baby Jesus: Pinkeye Reunion #2, Kat Jones, The Fay Wrays and It’ll Grow Back, Tonight At Audie’s!

Pinkeye

Christmas is nice for long time Fresno music fans because it usually produces a sweet musical reunion or two. This year it's the Miss Alans on Sunday and tonight at Audie's it's Pinkeye (yeah, with that one drummer dude from the big timey band). Plus, tonight features a return of Kat Jones (now a Nashvillian) and current awesome Fresnans: It'll Grow Back and The Fay Wrays.

Pinkeye did a version of this show last year and it looked like this:

For the North Fresnans, there's something cool going on for you too:

Music Box Fresno: Kuppajoes Simply About The Music

The drawbacks of the all ages music venue, Kuppajoe's: No indoor seating, small, no booze and no cussing allowed from the artists (probably only the bands realize that one).

The positive stuff: Good local and touring bands play there consistently. Much like last Friday when Atascadero/Los Angeles indie-alt band, Lakes, came through and sounded nice:

Guess we should just shut up and let the kids have their venue, but speaking from the well-over-21-but-still-love-live-bands crowd, it'd sure be nice to see the quality bands Kuppa gets, while having a beer.
