LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT: Fresno Urban Sound Experience Festival for 2012

FUSE 2012 (september 6,7,8)

Hope you'll be in town September 6th-8th. It's going to be a fun weekend in Fresno. Fun because that's the weekend for the Fresno Urban Sound Experience. It's the 5th year for FUSE Fest and while it may be a bit bigger, the ideals are the same as year one: Showcase Fresno's diverse and talented music scene while featuring relevant venues in Downtown Fresno.

So. The big stuff. The reason there is a festival at all. Let's take a look at the lineup for Fresno Urban Sound Experience #5! Because FUSE Fest has no headliners, this is in no particular order:

That's a large helping of Fresno music. Lineup is supject to change (such is life). But it's looking damn special so far and we cant wait to see it all in Downtown Fresno, Friday and Saturday September 7th and 8th.

Make sure to start inviting all your friend's faces. Follow FUSE Fest on Twitter and check the website for the latest news.

Focused On Fresno: ‘Twee’ Are Open

TWEE

Big Grand Opening for Twee today as they complete their bold move from Wishon Row to Downtown and The Warnors. Could this be a Wishon Row business trend? We know that Cafe Corazon loves Downtown and there is probably a spot open in the Warnors building… (just trying to start something).

Speaking of Grand Openings and moves, did you go to the brick and mortar version of Dusty Buns last night? Packed!

Exciting times for two of Fresno's hippest businesses.

Tonight @ Fulton 55: Pecha Kucha Night Fresno #14

Pecha kucha fresno

Thank you Creative Fresno for giving us something cool to do on a Monday night. It's time again for a Fersno Pecha Kucha and this one is globally linked as all Pecha cities are doing a "Cities" theme. Tonight's presenters are:

This is one of Fresno's coolest and most unique events. Definitely worth a try if you've never been.

BANDGEEK!: Shitass. Just HAD to pick THIS weekend to leave town… dammit.

Wow, man. This is just a HORRIBLE weekend to be out of town. Hor_rib_le. Both Friday and Saturday are packed out with big quality local talent. Insane stuff for those staying around, having fun in the 'no. Lucky bastards. The fun is explained below… BANDGEEK!!:

FRIDAY

AUDIE'S OLYMPIC: Professional musician (in every sense) Patrick Contreras has pretty much done it all locally. Yeah, I know what you're thinking "Well he doesn't know the first thing about dubstep." UP YOURS! You are wrong, my friend. He's been trying that too and he'll be doing some of it tonight:

KUPPAJOE'S: You were hopefully informed about this show earlier in the week. PK is premireing a new video for the song "Seawolves" plus they're playing with My Beautiful Surrender (Clovis) and The Roos (Visalia). Details:

FULTON 55: For some reason F55 wants to say thanks to Fresno. They're doing it with a free show from Fierce Creatures, Coast Jumper (SF) and the Quiet Americans. Stay classy, Fulton 55. [Free, 9pm, 21+]

THE BEL-TOWER: It's Doll Hair Fest II with a giant lineup of random crazy localness with Checkered Past, Restaurnaut, Still Stoked, Cabin Fire (Just signed to a Portland label), Sci-Fi Caper and more (check the event page for full details). Seriously it's a lot of acts, only a dollar, check it. [$1, 6-Midnight, All Ages]

THAI PALMS: The home growing continues with soon to be big Fields Of Prey plus Corsair and Rise Before The Fall:

THE CYC: Dude if Jabba The Hut has a bounty on your ass, best not go to this show as it seems bounty hunter, Boba The Fett, will be in attendance. The flier says "no disintigration" but it doesn't say anything about freezing people in carbonite:

BABYLON: We don't believe this to be Hands That Kill's last Fresno show… but go as if it is… that's really how we should treat all shows, right?

Babylon

SATURDAY

STARLINE: These dudes, 40 Watt Hype, never ever disappoint. This may be true of Clouded Vision and Kevin Hayashi but we need more info:

Focused On Fresno: Take That Chico and Paso Robles, We Have A Brewery Too

Tioga

Another nice edition to Downtown Fresno is officially up and brewing, and they now have the signage to prove it: Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company.

They (and NoTown Roller Girls) even had a beer garden going Saturday, before the Grizzlies game:

F.U.S.E. Fest 2010: Complete Lineup Released!

FuseAlright, no more messin' around. Let's get to the list of bands that will be performing in Downtown Fresno for F.u.S.E. Fest #3, happening on Saturday, October 23rd – Fresno's biggest showcase of local music talent.

A partial list was given, but now there is a full badass list. Fresno, your *2010 Fresno Urban Sound Experience lineup:

NEW ADDITIONS!:

*The lineup is subject to change. So, you might see an addition or subtraction here and there before October 23rd but that's generally what we're looking at.

And yes, there will be a DJ venue of sorts, so don't worry (gotta leave an announcement or two to help build the suspense, ya know). An announcement for stages/venues will be down the road too, so keep an eye out on Twitter and Facebook and goofy local blogs like this, for more. Info like: The Friday night pre-party will be in a downtown venue never used in a F.u.S.E. Fest before. Hmmmm *chin stroke* what could it be?

For now, make sure to visit the killer redesigned website and the check out the new commercial:

What Was This Sambo’s Place All About Anyway?

Always hear Sambo's references from older Fresnans, but never took the time to figure out the where & whats. Thanks to pics on the Mid-Century Modern Fresno Facebook page, best we can figure, Sambo's was like a awesomer version of Denny's. Tak a look (now Joe's Steakhouse):

Sambos downtown

INSIDE:

SAMBOS

Not to be a douche, Joe's (cause you're great and all), but the place could use a bit of streamlining/clearing of the clutter – more like what it used to be with Sambo's. Just sayin'.

The original Sambo's on the SE corner of Blackstone & McKinley, looked pretty sweet too (the building is gone now):

Sambosblackstone

If these pics are really impressing ya (shot by Tim Putz), you can go buy them over at Sambo's Photos.

INCOMING!: Radar Bros., Head Like A Kite, Smoosh

This Friday’s Radar Bros. show and Saturday’s Head Like A Kite show are huge for Fresno. The shows will be pulling double duty; finally resolving Fresno’s mid-size venue issue along with not having a promoter like Visalia’s Sound N Vision.

That’s right, Fresno music fans, we have nothing left to bitch about. Love The Captive has become the promoter Fresno’s needed and the Star Palace + Frank’s Place have become the mid-size venues we’ve been whining for.

Here are your milestone shows for the weekend. And also we’d like to add: Fuck. Yes. Fresno.

Radarbrosweb1

Substantially good LA indie rock band, Radar Bros. Sustainably good local indie folk-ers, Wheels Of Fortune and Primer Skyline. All the well written info you need is here.

On Saturday, same place and time, maybe better, maybe just as awesome:

Hlakjun26newweb

If you read this blog, you know all about the Fierce Creature folks already so let’s check these Head Like A Kite boys:

Really was hoping that Smoosh was those Smosh guys from Youtube (they’re funny…mostly), but it’s these guys..err… um girls. Maybe young ladies by now?:
